How to Make Homemade Scented Candles – Pumpkin Spice and Eucalyptus

If you know me, you know I am completely obsessed with candles. Seriously, I have one in practically every room of my house, and I make sure to have the perfect scent for every season. There’s just something magical about how candles bring relaxation and set the mood. Whether it’s a rainy day and you’re craving warmth or you’ve just finished deep cleaning your home, lighting a candle is the cherry on top of that cozy feeling.

Well, last month while giving my home a thorough cleaning, I opened up the basement closet where I keep my candle stash—only to find that I had run low on candles. Worse, I realized I didn’t even have any seasonal ones left. For someone who loves everything about fall and can’t imagine Christmas without a few cozy candles around, this was a huge surprise! Luckily, I caught it in time.

Instead of making a mad dash to a store to stock up on seasonal scents, I decided to get crafty and make my own! I’d heard that candle making is surprisingly easy and affordable, so I thought, why not? With no idea where to start, I did what any self-respecting crafter would do—I turned to Amazon. I grabbed a beginner-friendly candle-making kit with all the essentials: natural soy wax, candle wicks, wick holders, and a pouring pot. I also picked up a pack of 8 oz candle jars, some lovely fragrance oils, and a variety of candle dyes to get started.

I was so excited to dive into this project, especially with fall right around the corner. I kicked things off with pumpkin spice-scented candles—perfect for creating a cozy vibe! Once I got those just right, I moved on to eucalyptus-scented candles, which turned out amazing. Let me tell you, eucalyptus is the perfect fragrance to fill your home with, and these candles make such thoughtful gifts!

The first few tries didn’t go exactly as planned (I might’ve had a bit too much fun experimenting), but once I figured out the right balance of wax, fragrance, and dye, candle-making became so much fun. In fact, I got so hooked that I bought a 10 lb bag of soy wax and a larger pouring pot, so I could make even more candles to share with friends and family. I also brought in my trusty Cricut to add a personal touch to the jars and wrapped them up with twine for that extra cozy feel.

Ready to get crafting? Let’s make some amazing homemade candles! Here’s what you’ll need:

Materials:

  • Soy wax (1 lb of wax makes two 10 oz candles)
  • Candle wicks
  • Double-sided stickers (to attach the wick to the jar)
  • Candle wick holders (3-5 pack)
  • Pouring pitcher
  • Large pot for melting the wax
  • Wax stirrer
  • Candle jars
  • Protective cloth (old towel or something similar)
  • Fragrance oils of your choice
  • Candle dye (optional)
  • Decor (glitter, twine, vinyl designs, etc.)

Steps:

  1. Cover your work area with a protective cloth.
  2. Clean and dry your candle jars, then set them on the cloth.
  3. Stick the double-sided sticker to the bottom of your wick and attach it to the jar.
  4. Thread the other end of the wick through a wick holder and make sure it’s centered.
  5. Boil water in a large pot, then place your pouring pitcher inside the pot to melt the wax.
  6. Once the wax is melted, add color dye (about 7-8 drops per lb of wax) and stir.
  7. Add your fragrance oils (1 oz per lb of wax), then stir until the fragrance is fully mixed in.
  8. Carefully pour the wax into your candle jars.
  9. Let the candles sit for 4 hours to solidify.

And voilà! You’ve got yourself beautiful, homemade scented candles. You can get creative by adding vinyl designs, glitter, or wrapping them with twine for that extra festive touch.
