Making Your Way to Beach? Don’t Forget these Essential Items

Packing for a trip can feel overwhelming, but I actually look forward to it—especially when it involves a sunny day at the beach. There’s something special about those trips to coastal destinations, with the sand beneath your toes and the sound of the surf in the background.
And, so, it’s that time of year again—our annual beach trip to Jersey, and I can’t wait. The waves, the sun, the scent of salt in the air, and of course, the boardwalk with its shops, treats, and entertainment options. It’s always a highlight of the year.
As we gear up for our beach days, packing the essentials is key. If you’re heading to the beach soon and wondering what to bring, I’ve put together a list of 15 must-have beach items to make your trip stress-free and enjoyable.
- Sunscreen
Protect your skin from harmful UV rays by applying and reapplying sunscreen regularly. Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a high SPF. - Beach towel or mat
A large, absorbent towel or a beach mat is essential for lounging on the sand. Look for one that dries quickly and is easy to shake off sand. - Swimwear
Don’t forget your swimsuit! Pack a few options so you can change if one gets wet or for different activities. - Hat and sunglasses
Shield yourself from the sun’s rays with a wide-brimmed hat that provides shade for your face, neck, and shoulders. Sunglasses with UV protection are also crucial for eye protection. - Beach bag
Carry all your essentials in a spacious beach bag. Look for one that is water-resistant and has compartments to keep your belongings organized. - Water and snacks
Staying hydrated at the beach is vital. Bring a reusable water bottle and pack some snacks like fruits, granola bars, or sandwiches to keep you fueled throughout the day. - Cooler
If you plan on spending an extended period at the beach, a small cooler with ice packs will keep your drinks and perishable snacks cool and refreshing. - Beach umbrella or tent
Provide yourself with some shade by bringing a beach umbrella or a portable beach tent. This will help protect you from excessive sun exposure. - Beach chair or blanket
If you prefer sitting above the sand, bring a comfortable beach chair or a lightweight, foldable beach blanket to relax on. - Extra clothes and towels
Pack a change of clothes and extra towels in case you decide to take a dip in the ocean or want to freshen up. - Waterproof phone pouch
Keep your phone safe from sand and water by using a waterproof phone pouch or case. This allows you to take pictures and stay connected without worrying about damage. - Flip flops or water shoes
Protect your feet from hot sand and sharp objects by wearing comfortable flip flops or water shoes. - Beach games and toys
To make your beach trip more enjoyable, bring along beach games like volleyball, frisbee, or a beach ball. Additionally, if you have children, consider bringing sandcastle-building tools or other beach toys. - Portable Bluetooth speaker
Create a beach ambiance by playing your favorite tunes with a portable Bluetooth speaker. Make sure to be mindful of others and keep the volume at a reasonable level. - Trash bags
Help keep the beach clean by bringing a few trash bags. Properly dispose of your trash to maintain the natural beauty of the beach.
Remember to check the specific rules and regulations of the beach you’ll be visiting, as there may be restrictions on certain items or activities. Enjoy your beach trip!
